Gateway Communities started with a question: Why is it so difficult to find beautiful housing without all the hassle? You’ve seen the options. You could move into a condo that feels like it might as well be an oversized apartment. You could invest in complete lawn services…
The truth is that there is truly a gap in the marketplace for families that are ready to say goodbye to yard work, but still want to lead a lifestyle that makes sense. That’s how Gateway Communities was born.
At Gateway, our philosophy is simple… we want you to love your home without having to worry about the stresses of taking care of yard work or exterior details.
Sound easy to you? It is.
Growing up to two parents and a grandfather that were in the construction business set the tone for my future without me realizing it. As a kid I spent a lot of time on the jobsite with my parents. The two of them and my grandfather were interior trim carpenters as well as painters. I started learning the trade at a young age. As I got older my mother decided on a career change and moved into the banking business. From that point on I started spending more time in my teenage years at work with my dad when I was not in school. Not being satisfied with only learning that part of the business, I started asking other trades if I could work with them. I spent my high school summers working in the electrical field. During my senior year of high school, I contacted a builder and asked for a job. I worked for that builder for the next thirteen years.
I learned a lot of the business over the course of my employment there. I started out as anyone learning a new trade should (the bottom). I worked hard, paying attention to everything I could get involved with. At the age of twenty, I was able to run my first job from the ground up. Thanksgiving of 2001 I decided it was time to move on and start out on my own. Over the next three years I went out and learned what it was like to have to fend for yourself in the business world. I did small remodel jobs, worked for a real estate company fixing items on their listings and built houses for customers of my own.
In 2003, Carl McIntyre of Carrington Homes contacted me through a customer of his about a position in his company. Not being one to turn down an opportunity, I met with him and listened to his proposal. A year later in the summer of 2004 we came together and I spent the next eleven years working for him and learning new aspects of the business as a custom builder. After a few years with him and a down turn in the economy, we had to look for different ways to earn a living. That’s where things changed. Over the next several years Carl and I started looking at remodels and light commercial. At this point I started selling for him and bidding projects. The rest is history. After lengthy discussions of where we are heading that brings us to the spring of 2015, we are in business together with two other partners starting Gateway Communities.
After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in business administration, Carl was hired as a building supervisor by a local builder. On July 16th 1992, just a few years later, he founded McCordsville based Carrington Homes, Inc. along with his parents Chuck and Sandy McIntyre. Since that time, Carrington Homes has built over 250 homes in, and around the Greater Indianapolis area.
The company specializes in building custom homes starting from $250,000 to $4,000,000 plus. The company, also, does remodeling projects, completing over 70 residential projects in 2012 ranging from $5,000 to $200,000.
“One unique benefit we offer customers is our 15-year history of offering EPA-certified, Energy Star homes,” Carl says. “We not only guarantee that we’ll build you an Energy Star home as defined by the EPA, but we back it up by having each and every home tested and submitted to the EPA by a certified energy rater.”
Carrington Homes is a five-time recipient of the Hancock County Builder of the Year award and a two-time recipient of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis Builder of the Year award. Carl has been on the Board of Directors for BAGI for nine years and was president of BAGI in 2007. He is also a past president of the Hancock County Council.
Carrington Homes is a member of the National Association of Home Builders, the Indiana Builders Association and the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI).
In 1988, after working with his father in the masonry business, Dave decided to venture his entrepreneurial spirit into high gear and he established Dave Sego Builders, Inc. Working in the construction industry for his father instilled a basic business philosophy of honesty, integrity, and hard work.
Dave has built over three hundred custom homes since 1988. Most of his customers have come to him through referrals, not through advertising, and many are repeat customers. Dave makes a point to treat every customer as though they are his first. He wants every homeowner to feel that their home is the most important home he has ever built
While numerous builders were forced to close their doors during the recession, Dave and his company withstood the test of time. New home starts plummeted so he began home and business remodeling and continues to perform those services today. He puts his reputation on the line with every home he builds, with every renovation, and with every housing community he develops. Superior quality and attention to detail are important fundamental values to Dave. Dave’s impeccable reputation is what keeps his companies thriving.
Dave exceeds expectations when it comes to customer relations, product knowledge and experience. He has established an excellent core group of subcontractors and suppliers, most who have worked alongside him since he founded Dave Sego Builders, Inc.
As the construction industry is constantly changing, Dave makes it a point to learn and adapt to the latest housing trends and, more importantly, he listens to what the customer wants. This business approach has led Dave to being a well-respected custom home builder, developer and businessman.
In addition to his business relationships and customer relationships, Dave has forged friendships and partnerships with those that others would quickly label as “the competition” in the construction industry. The combination of years of experience, shared knowledge, mutual respect, honesty, and outstanding reputations as individuals, as well as business owners within the community, have led to the forming of these partnerships. They have joined forces in land and project developments and have been extremely successful.
